CMS midwives support and are experienced in providing home birth. Our practice is informed by Australian College of Midwives Consultation and Referral Guidelines and within these guidelines we work with women to promote healthy pregnancy, safe birth and smooth transition to early parenthood. The safest place of birth is where the woman feels safe and where birth is facilitated by skilled health professional. The safest place of birth may change through the course of the pregnancy or during labour. CMS midwives have established processes to ensure smooth transfer to the pre-arranged back-up hospital. To date Eligible Midwives have not been able to gain admitting rights to public hospitals in the State of Victoria however CMS midwives are committed to continuing midwifery support in collaboration with hospital health teams where a transfer to hospital is required.
